A 49-year-old Perry man was killed Saturday afternoon when his Chevrolet Suburban rolled over him after he left the vehicle to make sure he had locked a gate behind him.
Several passengers in the vehicle were slightly hurt.
The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Todd Evan Lund.
Witnesses on scene were able to get the Suburban off Lund by lifting the vehicle with a sheepherder’s jack and started CPR. Division of Wildlife Resources Officer, TJ Robertson and Larry Johansen of State Parks arrived on scene and began assisting with CPR and preparing a landing zone for Guardian Air.
Upon their arrival, Deputy Shawn Addley and Sgt. Ronnie Bogdin of the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office were informed that Lund exited his vehicle but left the Suburban in drive and the vehicle began rolling down the hill.
Once the vehicle started to roll, Lund attempted to get back into the vehicle as the passengers inside the vehicle attempted to stop it. The vehicle continued rolling downhill and off the roadway to the right and up a small embankment.
The angle that the vehicle was tilted caused the Suburban to tip over on its side, pinning Lund beneath.
Other occupants were taken to a local hospital, treated and released, according to the report.
