Volunteers from the USU Eastern baseball team and the Sun Center provided the muscle Thursday when 5,000 books were offloaded into a storage shed at the college baseball field in preparation for a Bookmobile swap between Carbon County and Cache County.
Bookmobiles from different regions of the state are occasionally swapped to balance mileage and the wear and tear on the vehicles.
The Carbon County Bookmobile is headquartered at the Helper Library. Librarian Judy Moore says the many volunteers made short work of the job and, “We totally appreciated it. They really went above and beyond to get it done in such a short period of time.” She also expressed thanks to Big Don’s Pizza and Little Caesars for donating pizza, and to Walmart for donating bottled water.
In addition to the thousands of books on board, the bookmobile has access to 32,000 books, audio books (including the new “Playaway” audio books), dvd movies, ipad, wireless WiFi and lap-top computers. About 2,700 adults and children are served by the Carbon County Bookmobile at 20 stops from Scofield to East Carbon, including seven schools.
