The Carbon High School girls’ volleyball team has its sights set on a Region 12 title, and after a win over Canyon View High School on Tuesday, the Dinos move within one game of that goal, behind North Sanpete High School.
The Dinos defeated the Falcons of Canyon View on Tuesday in four sets. Carbon won the first set 25-15, but fell to Canyon View in the second set 25-20.
“We missed a lot of serves, a lot of hits that went out of bounds, and that is horrible for your rhythm of the game,” said Dinos’ head coach Cristen Johnson. “You just can’t ever get a flow if you’re doing that, so after that game I really got on them and told them if their goal is to win a championship they can’t play like that.”
The Dinos bounced back, winning the third and fourth sets 25-12 and 25-7, respectively.
“In the games we won, they played great,” said Johnson. “I mean, that’s what I expected, to win by a lot, but for some reason we have those games every once in a while where we disappear.”
For the Dinos, senior Sara Morley had 26 kills, junior Giulia Malvicini 10 kills and three aces, senior Mallorie Bradley had 40 assists and five aces, junior Brecklyn Frame had 26 digs and senior Jordan Scoggins had 16 digs and four aces.
Johnson was disappointed in how the girls performed in the second set, but was happy with how they bounced back.
“We can’t have those moments where we disappear for games at a time and I got on them and they responded well, and that’s what I want from them so I was happy with the way they came out and played games three and four,” said Johnson.
Carbon will travel to play at Juab High School on Tuesday, then will come home to host the current leader in Region 12, North Sanpete on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. as the last regular season game of the season.
“Our goal is to beat Juab next week to put us in position to try to tie North Sanpete for that Region Championship,” said Johnson.
