Carbon County’s Board of Equalization has trimmed about $19 million from the latest property valuation figures after adjustments.
The original total had been $107 million, the revised figure now stands at $88 million.
An adjustment can result from from a property owner showing evidence of an oversight in calculating value. For example, a lot with wash running through it should not be valued according to the full acreage that may show on a plat map.
People who still dispute the valuations still have time to appeal to the state.
In other financial matters, the county has received a clean bill of health from its independent auditors.
Doug Rasmussen of Smuin, Rich and Marsing accountants told commissioners at the Oct. 7 meeting that it is the unqualified opinion of auditors that the financial statements fully present the county’s financial position.
Rasmussen said there were no unfavorable variances between budget and actual figures.
The audit document is 95 pages long.
