The Pinnacle Canyon Academy high school volleyball team lost its first home match of the season on Wednesday, falling to region-rival Green River High School in three sets.
The Pirates of Green River took dominant wins in both the first and second sets, defeating the Panthers 25-14 and 25-18 respectively. However, Pinnacle put up a fight in the final set, taking a five point lead over Green River about halfway through the set. After leading 18-13, the Pirates came back to tie the game and eventually take the 25-21 win.
“The kids took their selves out of the game,” said head coach Heidi Kay. “If they messed up, they didn’t bounce back like they needed to.”
While the Panthers may have lost the match, Kay said she saw many positive things throughout the night.
“I think our rallies were longer, they were taking care of the ball, we were passing well, spiking, getting our coverage, so we had a lot of good things,” said Kay.
The Panthers play their next match on the road against Whitehorse on Tuesday.
Their next home match will be on Oct. 2.
