The Carbon High School football team suffered a tough loss on Homecoming Night on Friday, falling to Grantsville High School 35-13.
The Dinos were close to heading into halftime with a one point lead over the Cowboys, after scoring a touchdown with 33 seconds remaining in the half. However, a quick drive from Grantsville and a successful two-point conversion sent the Dinos into the locker room trailing 14-7.
“It (the touchdown) didn’t change it (the team’s mentality) at all,” said head coach Josh Huntsman. “We just needed to come out and continue to play football.”
Grantsville came out strong in the third quarter and scored two touchdowns within the first six minutes of the period. The Dinos held the Cowboys until four minutes into the fourth quarter when Grantsville scored another touchdown.
Carbon scored its final touchdown of the game on a fourth-down pass to senior Peyton Fausett from the six-yard line. This brought the score to the final tally of 35-13.
Huntsman said that after this game the Dinos need to evaluate their game play and may need to change their style.
“Everything’s on the table now,” said Huntsman. “We’ve got to figure out how to win football games, so we’re going to put ourselves in the position to win football games, be it changing our offense or changing our defense. Whatever we have to do, we’re going to do to win football games.”
For the Dinos, senior Bradlee Chatteron rushed the ball for 22 yards and one touchdown on six carries. Senior Dallyn Mower ran for 44 yards on 12 carries. Fausett had 22 receiving yards with one touchdown.
Carbon travels this week to play against Morgan High School at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Dinos next home game will be on Oct. 14 against Richfield High School.
