The Carbon High School volleyball team continues to dominate non-region play with its fourth-straight match sweep. The Dinos swept the Longhorns of Altamont High School in three sets on Tuesday, giving them a seven-game winning streak, including tournament matches.
Still preparing for region play, which will begin next week, head coach Cristen Johnson said that the lady Dinos have been progressing very well from where they started the season.
“They’re starting to mesh,” said Johnson. “We have some new girls… so that takes awhile to get that chemistry and I’m finally starting to see some of that, so that’s good.”
Carbon, now 15-6 overall, dominated each set on Tuesday, defeating Altamont 25-15, 25-21 and 25-12. Although the scores do not seem so, Johnson said that the Dinos struggled in the first two sets, falling out of rhythm or missing easy points.
“I thought they played well,” said Johnson. “I thought in the second game we hurt ourselves a little bit with some mistakes, some hitting errors, but once we took care of those, I’d say that last game, that’s what I expected to see from them tonight.”
For the Dinos, junior Giuliani Malvicini had nine kills and nine digs, senior Sara Morley had eight kills and 11 digs, senior Jordan Scoggins had eight kills, 10 digs and five service aces, and senior Mallorie Bradley had 28 assists and four service aces. The team as a whole had 39 kills and 51 digs in the match.
The team will try to work out any minor kinks they may have in their last non-region match at Emery High School this Friday at 7 p.m. The Dinos will begin region play at home against Richfield High School on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
