Gerald “Jerry” Hanes

EAST CARBON- He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jerry was a resident of East Carbon since 1970 where he earned the nickname of “Mad Dog” from his co-workers and friends. Retired from Kaiser Steel Local # 9958 where he was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He honorably served in the US Navy and the Army Color Guard and was also a member of Carbon Lodge # 16 F.& A.M. of Utah.
“Mad Dog” loved the outdoors, watching TV and being a friend to all. He touched the lives of many and will be sorely missed by all.
Survived by his loving wife, Kathy Ann Hanes, East Carbon; two daughters and four sons, Deborah Marie Hanes, Georgia, Matthew Dana Hanes, David Scott Hanes, both of Salt Lake, Jason Jerald Hanes, Colorado, Cody Dee Hanes, Craig, CO, Moriah Dawn Jones, Las Vegas, NV; two brothers and one sister, Thomas, Karren and Dennis, all of Salt Lake; nine grandchildren and a community of friends and neighbors.
Preceded in death by his parents, son, Paul; brother, Kenneth; and a sister, Shirley.
Memorial service will be held Friday, June 12, 2015, 2:00 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price. Family will be at Mitchell’s one half hour prior to services.
