On January 1, the Price City Police department began investigating an embezzlement case involving Bruno Engineering and BODEC, sister companies that provide electrical services.
Former employee Yvette Marie Broussard Booker, 47, formerly of Price and a current resident of Broussard, Louisiana was employed by BODEC from September 2010 until August 2014, and handled accounting procedures for both BODEC and Bruno Engineering. Irregularities in finances had been discovered and an internal audit was conducted.
It was quickly determined that at least $9,000 had allegedly been embezzled by Booker. The Price Police Department was notified and began investigating. Information was gathered from internal company records and company banking records. Subpoenas were obtained for Booker’s records at her local banking institution, as well as her records from a national banking institution.
Examination and investigation of the records allegedly confirmed that Booker embezzled in excess of $110,000 from BODEC and Bruno Engineering. Booker allegedly employed several unauthorized methods to steal money from the companies, including misuse of company credit cards, improper and extra electronic thefts from both companies, and defeat of sophisticated measures in place designed to defeat theft.
Donovan Eugene Booker, 68, Yvette’s husband, formerly of Price and currently of Broussard, Louisiana allegedly benefited from the proceeds of the thefts.
On May 28, the 7th District Court issued warrants of arrest for both Don and Yvette Booker. Don’s warrant is for one count of Theft By Receiving Stolen Property, a second degree felony. His bail is set at $10,000.
Yvette’s warrant contains 71 separate counts, including Computer Crimes as second and third degree felonies, and Class A and Class B misdemeanors. It also includes numerous counts of Theft as second and third degree felonies, and numerous Class A misdemeanor counts. Her bail is set at $130,000.
Price City Captain Bill Barnes was sent to Louisiana to locate and interview the Bookers.
The Bookers were booked, on the above mentioned warrants, at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, where they are awaiting extradition to Utah.
Sgt. Brad Guidroz of the Louisiana State Patrol Investigations, and his crew assisted the officer.
