CHS Wrestlers looking forward to next year

Motivation is a key aspect in any sport. It can help give an athlete that extra push needed to get through a grueling practice session or a long run.
For the Carbon High Wrestling team, the State Tournament was a perfect place to gather motivation to improve.
After sending 12 wrestlers to the 3A State Tournament last week at UVU, the team came away hungry for another opportunity. None of the 12 wrestlers placed, CHS Head Coach Steve Woodhouse said, which left the team a little disheartened.
“We came out on the losing end of matches this time around,” Woodhouse said.
Despite that, Woodhouse said the team worked hard and didn’t back down.
“They all know that it’s very competitive at the State level,” he said.
Woodhouse said he didn’t want the results at State to damper the improvement and progress the team made over the course of the season. He said all but two wrestlers on the team had winning records which and they battled against Juab and Payson, which won the 3A State Title. The Dinos were able to pick up region victories over teams including North Sanpete and Richfield.
“I’m proud of the hard work and effort everyone put into this season,” Woodhouse said. “As a team, I think we far exceeded our goals we set at the beginning of the year.”
With the offseason now upon them, Woodhouse said several wrestlers have committed to participating in summer camps in an effort to get better in anticipation of next season.
Add to that a young roster that was comprised of several juniors and sophomores and there’s plenty of hope for the future.
“Carbon Wrestling is on the rise,” Woodhouse said. “We still have lots of work to do to continue getting better but I think it’s a very positive time for our program.”
