After a long season, the Carbon High Swim Team had the biggest opportunity to showcase their skills in the region swim meet to be held at the place they regularly train several times a week.
They didn’t let that opportunity go to waste as the girls team took home a region championship while the boys team added a second place finish during the region swim meet at the Price City Wave Pool complex on Thursday afternoon.
According to CHS Head Coach Kamra Davis, the girls haven’t won a region title possibly dating back to the mid-1990s.
“The girls have worked super hard to get to this spot all season long,” she said.
Davis also said the team swam one of their best meets, collecting 39 best times in the process. All six of the team’s relay squads, three teams from both the boys and girls’ squads, advanced to the State Meet.
Swimmers who had a strong region meet included Addy Olson, Sadie Crompton, Veronica Ibanez, Suparada Chaobol, Susannah Ohlwiler, Heidi Prettyman, Kaisha Lott, Joseph Keller, Tyson Swasey, Kaden Earl, Jax Kraync, Robby Jewkes, Will Laursen, Gabe VanDyke and many others.
Between now and the State Meet at BYU on Feb. 13-14, Davis said the team would be focusing on their endurance and swimming abilities.
“We’ll work on getting lots of yards in the pool and also focus on trying to fix all of the little things,” she said.
