With a spot secured in the state cheerleading competition this weekend, the Carbon High School Cheerleading squad now has two and a half minutes to showcase their skills amongst the best in the state.
The CHS girls finished in fourth place at the region competition on Jan. 17 at Salem Hills High School which qualified them for a spot at state.
“The girls have practiced a ton to make it to state,” said CHS Head Coach Trish Anderson. “This kind of sport requires a lot of time and dedication and the girls all show that.”
Anderson said the girls include dancing, cheering, stunting and tumbling into the two and a half minute final performance.
Anderson credits the team, which has 28 girls participating this year, with having an “extreme dedication” to not only cheering at competitions and at several school events, but also working hard in school (the team has a collective GPA of 3.7) and providing help at events including CHS swim meets and more.
“School spirit, that comes first for us,” Anderson said. “We’re a school squad. Competitions come second for us.”
The team has done very well, Anderson said, and are looking to cap things off with a strong performance at state which will be held at Salt Lake Community College on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m.
