Carbon High Wrestling Head Coach Steve Woodhouse has preached to his team about never giving up and being aggressive during each match.
That mentality proved to be a big factor in the Dinos’ 56-22 win over rival Emery High on Tuesday evening at the CHS Gymnasium.
Woodhouse said many wins for the Dinos came late in matches that could have gone the other way. In previous years, Woodhouse said those close matches would not have gone in the positive result for his team.
“The kids never stopped wrestling and that helped us win matches in the final minutes,” Woodhouse explained. “They were really aggressive out there and it paid off for us.”
The win over Emery High comes on the heels of a strong performance for the Dinos at the Panguitch Tournament last weekend. Woodhouse said the Dinos placed third overall at the tournament out of 21 teams total. In addition to that, Carbon High had 13 wrestlers placed in the top six of their respective weight classes.
That falls in line with the goal the team has of qualifying a large number of wrestlers for the 3A State Tournament at the end of the season.
“We’re moving in a positive direction,” said Woodhouse. “The team is striving hard to achieve our of goal heading into the State Tournament and they’ve been responding really well as a team.”
The Dinos will travel to take on Payson on Thursday evening before heading to Desert Hills Duels on Dec. 12-13.
