Carbon High School senior Anna Bryner has been chosen as one of two Utah students to participate as a delegate in the prestigious U.S. Senate Student Youth Program. Along with student delegates from other states, she will spend a week in Washington, D.C. in March meeting with senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of Defense and State, and directors of other federal agencies.
Anna will also be awarded a $5,000 scholarship for her undergraduate studies by the Hearst Foundations, which has sponsored the U.S. Senate Youth Program since 1962.
Anna was selected by the Utah State Board of Education from high school nominees across the state of Utah during a competition in Salt Lake City on Nov. 14, where she gave an extemporaneous speech, participated in roundtable debates, wrote an essay, and was judged on her portfolio of her academic achievements in social studies and participation in student leadership. Anna is a three time participant in the National History Fair, having taken eighth place nationally for her project on Radio Free Europe in 2013. She is also the student representative to the Carbon School District Board, and is Carbon High School’s Sterling Scholar nominee in social studies.
