CHS Cross Country team battles tough competition at only home meet of season

With only one home meet on the schedule this season, the Carbon High Cross Country team puts a lot of effort into performing at their best on a course they know well.
On Wednesday afternoon, the CHS Cross Country team hosted a handful of teams, including those in Region 12 and other schools, at their only home meet of the 2014 season held at the Carbon Country Club Golf Course.
For the boy’s team, Carbon placed fifth overall with a point total of 123. Uintah took first with 38 points, followed by Payson (77), North Sanpete (90), Wasatch Academy (115). Juab took sixth place and Grand placed in seventh.
Carbon’s Paul Bryner led the boy’s team finishing in 17th place with a time of 16:50. Drew Jones finished 21st with a time of 17:07. Other Carbon varsity boy’s runners included Trey Richardson (26th place, 17:23), Logan Engar (27th place, 17:47), Kyle Quinton (32nd place, 18:21) and J.W. Broadbear (36th place,18:38).
For the girl’s team, Carbon placed fourth overall with 71 points. Uintah took first place followed by North Sanpete, Juab and Grand finishing in fifth.
Emily Broadbear led the girl’s team finishing fifth overall with a time of 19:19. Zarah Rossi placed eighth with a time of 19:58. Following them were teammates Sarah Ohlwiler (13th place, 20:45) Madi Black (18th place, 21:34), Nikki Kulow (29th place, 25:18), Katie Snow (33rd place, 27:01), Sara Stromness (35th place, 30:54).
Also participating at the meet were junior varsity teams, including the CHS junior varsity boys. Kaden Kranendonk led the Dinos finishing 15th overall with a time of 18:38. Following him were Dallin Quinton (21st place, 18:58), Will Laursen (27th place, 19:37), Mortensen (31st place, 19:58), James Jewkes (33rd place, 20:04), Dalton Latimer (36th place, 20:20), Joseph Clifford (39th place, 20:44), Chris Hayes (40th place, 20:25), Kanyon Beecher (42nd place, 20:34), Gabe VanDyke (47th place, 21:09), Connor Holyoak (48th place, 21:11) Luke Hansen (50th place, 21:23).
Carbon’s next meet will take place on Oct. 8 at the North Sanpete Classic.
