For the second straight week the Carbon High football team fell behind early and was unable to overcome an early deficit, this time falling to Grantsville 41-13 on the road on Friday night.
Grantsville scored on their first two drives of the first quarter to take an early 14-0 lead in their Homecoming Night game. They added another touchdown early in the second quarter to push the lead to 21-0.
In their loss to North Sanpete at home last week, Carbon fell behind 20-0 at halftime and trailed by as many as 27 points in the second half.
Carbon finally got on the board after a snap on a Grantsville punt attempt went over the punter’s head allowing CHS defensive end Peyton Fausett to recover the ball in the end zone for the score to make it 21-6.
The Dino offense drove the ball down the field on their next possession but they were unable to convert on a fourth down deep in Grantsville territory.
Carbon opened the third quarter with a promising drive into Grantsville’s end of the field but it was cut short after a bad snap and fumble led to a turnover.
Grantsville added two more touchdowns to increase the lead to 34-6 midway through the fourth quarter.
Carbon’s offense finally broke through as quarterback Jarod Lessar connected with wide receiver Garrett Blanc on a 59-yard touchdown pass to make it 34-13.
Grantsville was able to add another touchdown late in the fourth quarter as they pushed the lead back to 41-13 over Carbon High.
With the loss, Carbon is now 3-2 on the season and 0-1 in 3A North play. Carbon will face another difficult test next week when they host Morgan High on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Carbon High Football Field.
