Playoff positioning on the line as CHS boys prepare for big week ahead

Dinos could boost chances of hosting home playoff game with two wins in region play
With the knowledge that they are in the playoffs, it may seem as though the Carbon High boys soccer team has nothing to lose.
However, CHS Head Coach Keith Palmer doesn’t want his team to start thinking that way any time soon.
With their final two games on the road, against Richfield on Wednesday, April 23 and North Sanpete on Friday, April 25, Palmer knows that there is still a lot of work to be done.
“We’ve got to figure things out right now,” said Palmer.
What do the Dinos have to figure out how to do?
Win on the road.
Carbon is 1-5 on the road this season, with their lone win coming in a 5-0 victory over Juab on March 25.
In those five other games, Carbon was outscored 34-1.
So it’s no secret Palmer and the Dinos want to overcome the difficulties on the road to keep alive the possibility of hosting a first round playoff game.
“They guys know these final two games are a big deal,” Palmer said. “We can’t continue to lay eggs on the road. We need to figure out how to win on the road now.”
The Dinos will also be looking to end a three-game losing streak.
Their last two losses against non-region opponents Bear River and Uintah saw the Dinos lose games by scores of 2-0 and 8-0.
“Hopefully those were just two bad games we played,” Palmer said.
With Richfield and North Sanpete still on the schedule, Palmer knows the Dinos face a difficult task.
Richfield will look to clamp down on the defensive end and North Sanpete will look to make things difficult by controlling the ball in the midfield.
Whatever the case this week, the Dinos (4-9-0 overall and 3-3-0 in Region 12 play) know they must play better if they want any hope of hosting a home playoff game.
“We need to get back to playing our game,” said Palmer. “Playing with confidence and being aggressive.”
