In golf, playing consistently well is never easy to maintain. But when things are going well, players will ride that streak for as long as possible.
That’s exactly what the Carbon High girls golf team is doing as they traveled to Sky Mountain Resort on Wednesday to play the North Sanpete region match and then went to Spanish Fork to play a head-to-head match against the Dons on Thursday.
Carbon walked away with a 38 point victory scoring a team total of 140 points at North Sanpete. Kaycee Gilson and Taylor Hammack tied for medalist honors with 36 points. Braxton Gibson finished with 35 and Katie Felice and Hailey Kirkwood both made 33. Richfield placed second with 102 points and North Sanpete and Juab tied for third with 84.
Going head-to-head with Spanish Fork, Carbon put up a stroke total of 377 to win by eight over the Dons’ 385. Katie Felice shot 88, Hailey Kirkwood 94, Braxton Gibson 96 and Kaycee Gilson came in with a stroke total of 99.
CHS Head Coach Kenji Otani said he was proud of the effort and determination to get better that the girls have shown over the entire season.
“The girls are amazing,” said Otani. “We haven’t been playing at our best the last couple of weeks, but the girls have been grinding it out and that is the true test of a player. I am their biggest fan and I admire their perseverance and dedication.”
Carbon will continue Region 12 play on Wednesday, April 23 when they will travel to Payson for a match starting at 11 a.m.
