ABAJO MOUNTAINS: (April 11) Conservation Officer Dennis Shumway reports slow fishing in San Juan County because of recent wind storms. Blanding three and four reservoirs have been stocked. For trout, try using PowerBait at Blanding four. Monticello Lake and Foy Reservoir are still capped with ice.

CARBON COUNTY COMMUNITY FISHING POND: (April 07) Conservation Officer James Thomas reports fair to good fishing using worms or PowerBait. Fairground employees recommend artificial flies or lures.

HUNTINGTON NORTH RESERVOIR: (April 07) Fishing is slow for both boat and shoreline anglers. On March 29, Tom Ogden fly fished from a kick boat. He failed to catch a single fish in 3.5 hours, which is a rare event for him.

JOES VALLEY RESERVOIR: (March 28) On March 23, Aquatics Biologist Calvin Black fished the rocky east shoreline under the cliffs. He used a dead chub under a bobber to catch a 22-inch, 3-pound splake on his first cast. In addition to the chub and bobber, he worked another rod rigged with a tube jig and chub meat. Most fish seemed to be hanging in shallow water right off submerged boulders. Calvin cast his line across the shoreline rather than out from shore to keep his bait in the zone where most fish were apparently holding. The cutthroat trout he caught ranged from 14-18 inches. Just before 5 p.m., Calvin hooked and landed a 10-pound, 30-inch tiger muskie. During the course of the day, Black landed 12 splake, 10 cutthroat trout, a 5-pound tiger trout and a 30-inch muskie.

LA SAL MOUNTAINS: (April 11) Conservation Officer Tj Robertson reports fair fishing at Ken’s Lake. Anglers are using PowerBait and a variety of spinners. Ken’s Lake and the Rattlesnake ponds have been stocked.

MILLSITE RESERVOIR & STATE PARK: (April 11) On April 8, Calvin Black and Dan Keller fished from a boat along the face of the dam in 20 to 30 feet of water. Once they located fish with a graph, fishing was excellent. PowerBait worked better than jigs, spinners, or tube jigs tipped with chub meat. They had the most success using chartreuse PowerBait with glitter. Rainbow trout averaged 14-16 inches and weighed between one and two pounds. Splake ranged from 15 to 17 inches and weighed a little more than a pound.

SCOFIELD RESERVOIR: (April 11) On April 9, Conservation Officer Wyatt Mecham reported five feet of open water along the reservoir’s shoreline. The ice pack was soft. Ice fishing at Scofield is over for the year.
