CHS Track and Field heading into final stretch

By Sun Advocate

With only three meets left before the gauntlet of the BYU Invite, Region 12 Championship and the State Meet, the Carbon High Track and Field team could use a good boost to help carry them through the rest of the season.
They won’t have to wait long for a boost as they will host their second Carbon Invitational on Saturday, April 12 at the CHS Track.
CHS Head Coach Jimmy Jewkes said his team has been performing well over the past two meets, with the boys and girls teams each having many athletes step up in big situations.
“We had an amazing meet at Uintah,” said Jewkes. “With our second home meet, we’re hoping to see some more of those great performances.”
Some of the highlights of the upcoming meet will include the boys medley relay, who already have the top time in 3A, seeking to break the school record of 3:37:00.
Senior Garrett Marsing, one of the runners in CHS history, will compete in his final home meet. Jewkes said Marsing will compete in the 3200 meter race and will participate in the boys medley relay.
“Garrett is a once-in-a-generation type of runner at Carbon High,” said Jewkes.
On the girls team, Jewkes said that runners including Zaharah Rossi, Lindsey Blanc and Giovanna Chiara continue to improve their times. Many of the girls high jumpers will be looking to improve their personal bests in the attempt to qualify for BYU and possibly the State Meet.
Jewkes said the athletes on the team can often get a boost by performing in front of a large home crowd and he is hoping that is what takes place on Saturday.”
“Our team is continuing to get better and better,” he said. “We’re coming along very quickly but there is still a lot of improvement to be done.”
