Young team showing improvement for Carbon High in early season competition
With many new athletes on the Carbon High team this season, the first home meet of the season gave many of them a chance to compete on the big stage on their home track.
And they didn’t disappoint.
The Carbon girls took third place and the boys took fourth place but together they finished overall with 164.5 points, second to Orem’s first place total of 496.
CHS Head Coach Jimmy Jewkes said the Carbon Invitational “went pretty well overall” and helped a young team gather more experience to improve.
Jaylie Jensen took first place in the girls javelin throw with a toss of 94 feet, 9 inches. Garrett Marsing took first place and qualified for state in the 1600 meter race.
The girls and boys 4×100 relay teams each took second place finishes.
“We’re getting a lot out of the athletes on the team,” said Jewkes. “There is a lot of development across the board and we’re hoping to see that continue through the season.”
Carbon will travel to compete in the Pineview Invitational on Friday and Saturday this weekend.
