Emery High hosted the Carbon High Lady Dinos in the Dinos first action of the season last Tuesday and the Spartans were too good of host as the visiting team went home with an 18-7 win over the home team. Carbon had twenty one base hits in the game as every batter had at least one and one, Lauren Rice had five.
The Dinos scored one run in the first inning as Katie Basinger had a single, Rice had a single and Chandelle Nichols had another single to score Basinger. Carbon added two more runs in the second inning with Alexus Wilson hitting a three-run double after Basinger walked, Cyene Bigelow doubled and Rice hit a single.
Carbon added two more in the top of the third inning to lead 6-0. In that inning, Taylor Passarella doubled followed by Kim Johnson getting on base and Bigelow singling to score the runs.
In the bottom of the third Emery scored four runs to narrow the gap to 6-4 and gave the Emery fans hope that things were finally going a little bit their way and that the game was finally a game.
Gentry Noyes led off the inning with a single followed by a single from Abby Jacobsen and a walk to Ashton Bell to load the bases. Makayla Clark then singled scoring two runs for the Spartans and it left two runners on base. After a pair of outs, Amber Peterson singled scoring the final runs of the inning. Emery’s enthusiasm was short lived however.
In the top of the fourth inning Carbon would put together five base hits, a hit batter and two Emery errors to score seven runs and now lead the game 13-4. Rice, Passarella, Paige Haeck and Rice again all had singles in the inning with Bassinger having a double. Wilson got hit by a pitch. Emery could not answer in the bottom of the inning.
Both teams would score three runs in the fifth inning. Carbon got theirs off of five hits and a walk. Nichols, Passarella, Bigelow, McKenna Sorenson and Rice each had a single with Basinger receiving a base on balls.
In the bottom of the inning, Jacobsen singled followed by a pair of fielder’s choices by Bell and Clark and a double by Hailee Beckstead and a single by Taylor Payne for Emery’s three runs.
Carbon added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to end the game after six. Passarella singled and Johnson doubled and both scored in the inning for the final runs of the day.
Rice had five base hits with Passarella having four and Bigelow had three to pace the team. Basinger, Wilson and Sorenson each had three RBI’s. Basinger, Wilson, Passarella, Johnson and Bigelow each had a double in the game.
For Emery, Beckstead had two doubles for Emery’s only extra base hits and Jacobsen had a pair of singles. Noyes, Clark, Payne and Peterson had Emery singles.
Sorenson was the winning pitcher for Carbon and Clark was the losing pitcher for Emery. Bell relieved in the final two innings.
