Southeastern Utah Fishing Report

By Sun Advocate

ELECTRIC LAKE: (January 24) On the north side, you can only access the lake via snow machine. The south side, though, is accessible only by making a steep, snowy hike from Highway 31. There have been very few anglers at the lake since the Christmas holiday season.

JOES VALLEY RESERVOIR: (January 24) On Jan. 19, Calvin Black fished the east side in 10 to 30 feet of water. His two largest fish were a 20-inch tiger trout and 18-inch splake. Overall, he caught nine fish in 2.5 hours, and missed at least as many. His most effective rig was a two-inch white tube jig tipped with chub meat. Although the ice was 12 inches thick where he fished, Calvin saw open water at the mouth of Seeley Creek and Lowry Water. Please be extremely cautious in Seeley Creek Bay, where warm springs can produce hazardous ice conditions.

SCOFIELD RESERVOIR: (February 04) Fishing is fair to good for cutthroat and tiger trout inside the 15 to 22 inch slot limit. Anglers aren’t catching many fish that exceed the slot. Most rainbow trout being caught are between 11 and 14 inches. Fishing on the west side of the reservoir and around the island is picking up. Try fishing close to the shoreline, in water less than 10 feet deep.
Try using small jigs in glow, bright neon or white and pearl colors. Mealworms, salad shrimp, pieces of worm or chub and minnow meat are good baits.
