While the Carbon High volleyball team has their sights set on the 3A State Tournament next week in Orem, finishing out the regular season with a win is a higher priority.
The Lady Dinos got a head start on that goal as they went on the road and defeated Juab in five sets on Tuesday evening.
CHS head coach Danielle Jensen said her team came out and won the first set before trading set victories with Juab through the fifth and final set.
“Overall it was a fun game for us,” said Jensen. “Our big hitters Shelby (Cornforth) and Annika (Hansen) had big games for us.”
Jensen said in the sets Carbon won, their passing was crisp and led to kill attempts by Cornforth, Hansen and a host of others. But in the sets the team lost, their passing suffered leaving an opening for Juab to take advantage.
“We’ve lost games this season when we didn’t pass well enough,” Jensen explained. “There has been a lot of ups and downs but the girls are improving a lot each game.”
Now the Lady Dinos will turn their focus to their home finale as they host Richfield on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
While the Lady Dinos will be looking to send their seniors out with a final home victory, they will also have revenge on their minds. Richfield’s only Region 12 win this season came from a win over Carbon on Oct. 3.
“Going out with a win would be huge for our team,” said Jensen.
Since taking over last season, Jensen said the program is taking the right steps towards building a hard working and winning program.
“There’s still plenty of work to be done, but I’m very pleased with how the team and the players have progressed over the last two years,” she said.
