Playing through the windy, and at times miserable conditions in Richfield, the Carbon High boys accomplished one of their main goals of the season in the process.
With a second place finish at the Region 12 match, the Dinos clinched the Region title by a total of 74 points over second place finisher Payson.
“The wind was extremely bad out there for the boys but they battled and took second to clinch the title,” said CHS head coach Tom King.
Carbon’s strong start to the season over their first two matches proved to be the difference in the region standings, King said.
“Our first two matches went really well and they helped us in the end,” King explained noting the team’s struggles toward the end of the year.
Senior Robbi Etzel led the team in Richfield shooting a 79. Seniors Blake Bean (84), Dillen Ward and Dallas Anselmo (89), and freshmen Kayden Alderson (99) and Waylon Davis (104) rounded out the scoring for the Dinos.
King also said the four seniors also received Academic All-Region honors.
Now the focus will turn to the state tournament as the Dinos will use a match in Vernal on Tuesday, Oct. 1 to work on the areas they need to shore up in anticipation for state on Oct. 9-10.
