Train accident kills Price man, 27

A Price man was hit and killed by a train Sunday along a section of track near the Price River in Utah County.
Brent Hall, 27, who suffered from severe autism, was reportedly stuck by the train near mile marker 218 of U.S. Highway 6, while fishing with his caretaker. According to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, Hall was unable to move away from the oncoming train as it rounded a corner just before 6:30 p.m.
A life-long Carbon County resident, Hall was a fixture at the Castle Valley Center where he was enrolled as both a student and within the adult program for more than two decades.
“He was well-liked and well-known by everyone around here,” said Castle Valley Center Principal Mike Keller. “This is a shock for all of us, Brent was such a great person.”
According to Keller, Hall’s autism severely interfered with his decision-making abilities but left him physically capable. It was a condition that allowed Hall to be active and participate in a great many activities.
“He was a person that enjoyed life,” continued Keller. “I remember that he enjoyed and took pride in any task that involved repetition. He really loved things like stacking fire wood, he would do anything to help.”
Having been involved with the special needs people for decades, Keller is intimately acquainted with the challenges faced by both Hall and those who loved him.
“We just want to be supportive of his caretakers and his family,” he said. “A tragedy like this is heartbreaking.”
