Donna Perkins Mantle

KEARNS/EAST CARBON – Donna Ruth Perkins Mantle, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Aug. 3, 2011 in East Carbon.
She was born to Howard Perkins and Lela Gledhill on Jan. 10, 1926 in Standardville.
Donna grew up in Carbon County and with the passing of her mother, she was raised in a blended family. Donna was very close to Ruth, her father’s 3rd wife and often referred to her brothers and sisters as one large and very happy family. During the war years she moved to Salt Lake to live with an aunt and uncle. While there she met the love of her life Ray Parley Mantle who had just returned from the war.
Donna and Ray were married in the Logan LDS Temple on July 22, 1946. They started their family in the mining community of Standardville, and later moved to Kearns. Donna was the perfect example of a homemaker. She is remembered for her sparkling clean home, from the windows to the baseboards. Her loving support allowed each of her children to develop talents and pursue their varied interests. Although she worked during the children’s teenage years, Donna always found time to be there for them.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Donna loved to serve others and was a great support and comfort to the girls and women she worked with. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in the church choir and was asked to sing solos on several occasions. Later in life, Donna and Ray served as family history missionaries and in the Salt Lake Temple for many years.
She is survived by her seven children, Rayleen Keith, Rex (Susan) Mantle, Elizabeth Campbell, Melanie Howick, Edna (David) Wells, Lisa (Joel) Trujillo and Chad Mantle; 30 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren; brother, Van (Kathy) Perkins; and sister, Darleen Harrison.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Parley Mantle; son’s-in-law, Phil Keith and Rod Campbell; granddaughter, Gina Howick; brothers, Rex, Max, Paul and Clement; and her sisters, Carol and Lela.
Every part of her life set an example of grace and dignity. Her sweet and unconditional love for her children and grandchildren will be dearly missed. We love you Mom.
Funeral service, Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, 12:00 noon, Salt Lake 14th LDS Ward (142 W. 200 N.) Salt Lake City. Family will receive friends at the church Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Interment, Taylorsville City Cemetery.
