The Carbon High football team has been having a better season than the last two. They won their first game and put up points against teams that they haven’t been able to score on in the past. But Friday, they stumbled when they took on Wasatch in Heber and came away with a 42-0 loss.
Head Coach Jeff Blanc was stymied at the lack of emotion he saw on the field Friday night and it played out in a string of turnovers that had the Dinos down 21-0 before the first quarter was even over. Carbon got the ball first and turned it over on their first drive and the Wasps took advantage of it with a score. The rest of the half was more of the same.
“We struggled on both sides of the ball,” remarked Blanc. “We couldn’t get any offense going and we couldn’t stop their drives.”
Total team rushing for Carbon was 28 yards. Daulton Nelson had the most success with 38 rushing yards. Colton England led the way on receiving with one catch for 10 yards. Dakota Cisneros completed four passes for 26 yards.
On defense Wyatt Martinez and Nelson pulled down 11 tackles between them. Carson Tatton, K.J. Erickson and Ryan Matkin each scooped up a fumble.
“We watched the tapes and felt like this was a team we could beat, but they didn’t have the same emotion as the team that took the field against Richfield,” Blanc added. “I challenged them to have someone step up and be a leader, but so far that hasn’t happened. We need to step it up because Park City is a better team than Wasatch and they are our next opponent.”
The Carbon Dinos take on the Miners this Friday on the Carbon High field with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
