Carbon High Principal Greg Stanfield announced this week that Carbon Football Coach Leo Paur has decided to resign as head coach. In a released statement the school praises the efforts of the two-year-coach.
The statement read, “Mr. Leo Paur has stepped down as the football coach at Carbon High School. He wants to pursue some other avenues but still be involved in the program. He is very appreciative of the support of the athletes and community.
As the administration we want to thank Coach Paur for his efforts the last two years we feel he has done some good things and we applaud his efforts and all he has done.”
Paur took over the program days before the season was set to begin last year after Coach Tim Tiller was let go. Despite being back for a second year, Coach Paur was unable to find a way to put the program on a winning track again this season. Paur stated he was offered the job for a third year and was not forced out. He has a theater background, including a master’s degree in theater and has decided to focus on that.
Paur will be doing more in the drama department. Mr Scott used to do the drama classes. He retired last year from and is working part time with the High School now. Paur will be directing the play Cyrano de Bergerac this summer. He knows that will take a lot of time and effort.
Paur feels like the next year’s football team has some great potential and hopes who ever takes over will continue to run a separate sophomore program.
He has voiced his opinion of who he would like to see as a replacement, but the job is open for applicants and no decision has been made yet.
Carbon School district officials will be taking applications at this time for a new football coach. If interested contact the district office
