The Carbon Dino Lady’s soccer team had a historic moment Friday afternoon as they downed Delta for the first time in program history. Winning 3-2 the Dinos improved their region record to 1-2 tying them for second in region eight play with North Sanpete and Delta.
“It was a huge win for our program,” said Carbon Coach Jerad Upwall. “Delta is always a powerhouse and it was great to see our girls step up and take them down.”
Upwall reported that the Dinos could have taken North Sanpete in the previous game had they kept their initial intensity throughout the whole match.
“We went up 2-0 and then got comfortable with the lead and it cost us the match 3-2,” explained Upwall. “I made sure our girls played Delta as if they were coming from behind the whole time.”
Scoring all three goals for the Dinos was Felicia Olmos who put two in on penalty kicks and scored one from the field.
The game got tight with five minutes remaining as Carbon was called for a hand ball penalty giving Delta a one on one shot on goal to tie the game at 3-3.
Lydia Jeppson came up with an amazing stop, according to Upwall, securing the win for Carbon.
“I feel like our girls could beat anyone in the region right now,” continued the Carbon coach. “If they play to their ability they can compete with anyone.”
