Shorthanded girl’s team losses to Uintah

By Sun Advocate

Down five varsity players in one game just doesn’t make for a fair fight. That’s exactly what the Dino girl’s soccer squad was facing as they took the field against a good Uintah team last Thursday. Uintah took advantage of the Carbon shortfall and beat them 8-0.
Coach Jerald Upwall explained that he had two varsity members not there because of school work. He also took a cautious approach and sat three others who were recovering from injury and illness. Both Hannah Downard and Felicia Olmos should return to the starting line-up when the team takes the field on Wednesday in their region opener against North Sanpete. Jazmin Moncada remains doubtful as she continues to nurse a pulled tendon in her knee.
Upwall dipped into the JV squad to fill the bench and the team played its heart out. Goalie Lydia Jeppson had a rare bad day to add to the Dinos troubles. In the end it was good it was preseason, where a loss is only painfull until you play again.
“Now,” said Upwall “I told the girls they have to step it up and be more committed. It’s for real now.” He is still upbeat on the team’s run through region action. Game one against the Hawks will be over and done by the time this is published. Scores for that game will be in the Tuesday, Sept. 15 edition of Sun Advocate sports.
The Dinos will head to Draper to take on Juan Diego next Wednesday Sept. 17 before returning home on Sept. 19 to take on Delta. Varsity game time is at 3:30 p.m. behind Carbon High School.
