Carbon golf has first struggle

Carbon High golf team stumbled home on its way to a third place finish in the region match held at Skyline Mountain Resort in Fairview, the home course for North Sanpete. It was the first time all year that the Dinos have not finished in first place and the race for the region title has tightened up, according to coach Tony Pinedo.
Juan Diego finished in first place with a team total of 322 and leaves them in third place overall, 28 shots behind Carbon. Salem Hills finished in second place just one shot behind Juan Diego with a 323.
Salem Hills is now only 14 shots behind Carbon in second place overall. In spite of fisnishing in third place with a team total of 336, the Dinos remain in first place overall for the Region 8 crown. North Sanpete scored a 338, Delta had a 345, and Emery finished with a 356.
Jordan Pinedo had a score of 82 and it was the best for the Dinos. Ethan Jenks finished with an 83, Geoff Vogel had an 85, and Corbin Black and Jaren McCourt finished with 86’s. Justin Child, Josh Erramouspe and Gage Bigelow were the other Dino golfers at the match.
The three leading teams in the Region all have a home match remaining. The next match will be on Thursday, Sept. 11, at Gladstan in Payson, the home course of Salem Hills. The following week the match will be at Riverbend, Juan Diego’s home course. The region play will conclude on Thursday, Sept. 25th, at the Carbon Country Club, the Dinos home course.
“It will be a very interesting finish to the season,” said Pinedo. Juan Diego and Salem Hills are playing better and we had an off week. We hope we can get things turned around this week and play better.”
