KENILWORTH/ALHAMBRA, Calif. – Joseph Sacco died Aug. 18, 2008 of complications following surgery.
Joe was born Feb. 14, 1921 in Cosinga, Italy, to Rose and Virginia Barbetta Sacco.
In January 1929 at the age of 8, he immigrated with his mother to the United States through Ellis Island in New York to meet his dad for the first time.
In 1957, he returned to his native land of Italy, where he met and married Marisa Grande. They were married July 7, 1957 in Genoa.
In September 1957, they went back to Kenilworth, where they lived until 1959
He lived in Kenilworth with his father, mother, brother and three sisters.
At the ager of 20, he was drafted into the U.S. Army.He participated in the second invasion of Nomandy. He also served in northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
In January 1959, they moved to Los Angeles, Calif., to seek employment. They resided in Alhambra, Calif., ever since.
Joe was a proud Army veteran. He enjoyed reading, baking, dancing and watching sports. He had a passion for horse racing. He also played the harmonica.
Joe had a good sense of humor and a fun loving nature.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marisa; son, Joseph Sacco; and daughter, Suzanne Sacco, both of Alhambra, Calif. Also survived by brother, Ernest and Antoinette Sacco of LaVerne, Calif.; sisters, Pierina Crocco, Price; Grace Givigliano, Temple City, Calif.; Ernestine and Joe Perri, Covina, Calif.; nieces, Brenda Jolene, Shelby; nephews, Johnnie, Joseph Ross, Ernest Ross and Emerson Joseph and Vincent. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Virginia Sacco; brothers-in-law, Johnnie Crocco and Frank Givigliano.
Funeral Mass was Aug. 23 at St. Terese Catholic Church, Alhambra, Calif. Burial was at the Resurrection Cemetery in San Gabriel, Calif.
