Onlookers gaze a car that was demolished during a collision with a semi-tractor on U.S. Highway 6 near Soldiers Summit about 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
Sgt. Jeff Nigbur of the Utah Highway Patrol said according to witnesses that the eastbound car ran off the right side of the road near milepost 211 then came back onto the road veering into the left lane where the truck was heading westbound.
The collision cut a hole in the tanks of the diesel which spilled out 50-60 gallons of diesel fuel. The Carbon resident in the car was critically injured and the UHP called in AirMed from the University of Utah Hospital to transport him to Salt Lake.
U.S. Highway 6 was shut down for about an hour for the accident, jamming traffic up in both directions. Nigbur said the accident and whether alcohol was involved is still under investigation.
