Helper splits last week’s games

By Sun Advocate

After a close win over Taylorsville on Monday night, the Helper Legion squad headed north on Wednesday to Taylorsville and lost 2-1. The boys then bounced back and went on to beat the Spartans on Friday night at home by the score of 6-1.
Coach Cisneros talked about the Wednesday game, “This was a game we should have won. Taylorsville is always very hard to beat at home but this was a game we let get away.”
Helper put up a single run in the first inning and could not score the rest of the game. They left nine base runners in stranded scoring position and just could not get a hit when they needed one.
Kyler Edgehouse pitched a complete game and did a good job. He gave up only four hits and two runs.
As a team, Helper had only five hits on the night. Two came on doubles by JD Sherman.
On Friday, Helper took on the Spartans at home. The Spartans are a team made up of graduated seniors from Murray and Olympus High and Helper won easily 6-1.
Helper put up six runs on six hits. And a few walks and a couple of errors courtesy of the Spartans helped in the cause.
Jordan Gee pitched five solid innings and allowed only one run.
Josh Denison and Ron Herrera came in and pitched the final two innings to close out the game.
Sherman had a double and a RBI. Colby Snow added a triple with an RBI.
Cisneros commented on the win, “We still did not hit the ball the way we are capable of. Our defense and pitching has been outstanding all year, but our bats have been inconsistent.”
The team will travel to Olympus on Monday and are at home Wednesday against East. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
The Helper tournament starts Thursday with two games. Price American Legion team will be playing the 8:00 game on Thursday and Helper’s first game will be Friday at 8:00 pm.
