CEU pitcher Riley Gordon delivers one in an earlier game. He will take the mound in the first game of post season play for the Eagles against CSI.

Western Nevada came one inning away from completely shutting out the Eagles this weekend. But in the seventh inning of the final game CEU managed to score a pair and take a lead for the first and only time the whole weekend. It didn’t last.
WNCC swept all four games from the Eagles by the scores of 0-4, 0-6, 0-5, and 2-8. The win gave Western Nevada a first round bye in the SWAC post season play. CEU meets up with CSI on Wednesday.
It wasn’t as if the Eagles didn’t hit the ball against WNCC, they accumulated 16 hits in the series. They just couldn’t string them together to score.
It also wasn’t lack of defense. They held WNCC scoreless for many innings of each game. It was instead one big let up in each game. On Friday’s game one WNCC exploded for four in the fifth. In game tow they posted four in the seventh to ice up the game.
On Saturday’s lead off game WNCC again had a four run inning, this time in the third. But in the last game CEU was ahead 2-1 in the seventh after scoring their first runs of the series. It seemed to just rile up their opposition who went on a seven run tear in the bottom half of the inning. It took four Eagle pitchers to finally end the game.
The team headed to Henderson, Nev. to prepare themselves for the first round of the play-offs. They will face CSI whom they have beaten twice this season. “Our boys know they can beat this team.” stated Coach Scott Madsen. “If we can get our offense consistent, we can beat anyone.”
CSI is coming off a sweep to Southern Nevada. The winner of game one will face Southern Nevada who has earned a first round bye. Madsen will put his best pitcher, Riley Gordon, on the mound to take on CSI. “Southern Nevada will be tough, we just can’t look past our game with CSI. We have to beat them first.”
