Charred utility poles and working fire trucks note the spot where a wildfire shut down the electricity for western Carbon County on Monday afternoon.
About 2 p.m. the lights went out in Price, Spring Glen, Helper and in Carbonville when the fire raged around the lines running through the mouth of Price Canyon just about where Pather Canyon takes off to the east.
The Helper Fire Department responded to the blaze and had it contained quickly while Rocky Mountain Power crews worked to restore the main line into the area. It was unclear at press time whether the fire damaged the lines or if the power was shut off on purpose to keep fire fighters safe during their containment operations.
The crews efforts were successful as the power came back on about 2:45 p.m. making the outage much shorter than it could have been if more damage had been done.
