Paige Pinedo sends one to the plate in a game against Union earlier in the season here in Price.

Coming off a monster 10-0 win in Park City on Saturday, the Carbon softball team lost a pair of close ones to North Sanpete to open region play. The Dinos were downed 2-3 in the first and then dropped the second 0-2.
Carbon wrapped up pre-season play with a trip to Park City. They began slow but steady with a single run in the first and second innings.
A pair in the third and a run in the fourth had them sitting in a good spot as pitcher Paige Pinedo and the rest of the offense was holding Park City to a big goose egg.
The Dinos erupted for five in the fifth. Park City could still not put up an answer and the game was ended on the 10 run rule.
Whitney Oliver and Erika Potts led the offense with home runs. All-in-all, Coach Pinedo felt like his team played a solid game overall.
The Dinos then traveled to North Sanpete for a double-header on Tuesday. In game one Carbon was first to draw blood with a run.
Each team put across a run in the third and then the Hawks took the lead for good with a pair in the fourth. No one could score after that and the Hawks took the win.
Carbon out hit North Sanpete 10-7.
“They hit the ball well, but just could not get the hits when there were base runners in scoring position,” expressed Coach Pinedo. “A few base running errors also didn’t help. But it still was a good game that we should have won.”
In game two Pinedo pitched another solid game, allowing only five hits. Both of North Sanpete’s runs were unearned.
The first came on a strike out as the Dino catcher missed the ball, allowing the runner on third to score. The second came on an infield overthrow.
“An error here and a mistake there cost us the game,” summed up Coach Pinedo. “These were tough games and even though we lost, the outcome was much better than the games we found ourselves in last season. We have come a long way and still can and will do better as the season rolls along.”
Carbon will take on the Delta Rabbits this Thursday as they continue region action. Juan Diego will come to Price on April 10 for a game beginning at 3 p.m.
