That’s the way the ball bounces. For CEU it was the difference in the Friday night shooting of 29 percent and Saturday’s 58 percent. Same shots, but on Saturday they went in for points. The difference was also seen in the final outcome of both games against Snow. On Friday night the Eagles lost 65-73, Saturday their fortunes turned and they beat Snow 99-76.
With Snow sitting ahead of them in SWAC action, the Eagles were hoping for a sweep. And it looked possible through the first half of play on Friday night. The Eagles hung in with Snow and were only down by three at the end of the half.
But then their shooting went cold as shot after shot bounced off the rim and into the hands of their opponents. The Eagle’s defense remained strong and despite poor shooting, they still limited Snow and kept the game within reach. But in the end the Badgers had the hot touch and slowly put the game away.
Even with the low scoring, the Eagles had four players in double figures. Kasey Day came off the bench to lead the team with 12. Maquette Potts led the starters with 11. Ande Miller and Erin Richardson added 10 each. Potts was also tough on the boards, pulling in nine, to lead the team’s defensive effort.
What a difference a day can make. On Saturday the Eagles used the force and found their shots falling through for points rather than for rebound opportunities for the other team. CEU was up 42-39 at the break. Snow who had shot 59 percent in the first half saw their shooting go cold and they could not get anything to drop in the second half of play. As the Eagles shooting percentage soared to 66 percent so did their lead and they scooped up a 23 point victory.
Kendra Dalebout had the hot hand for the Eagles with 26 points. She shot 10-14 from the field and had four threes. Another 20 from Richardson helped the Eagle’s offense immensely. Potts had another 11 point game to round the top scores for the Eagles. Day was the top board crasher for CEU with seven rebounds. Amber Strong had five steals as the Eagles picked the pocket of Snow 18 times in the game.
The final regular game for the team will take place at SLCC this weekend. Friday night game time is at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday will start at 1 p.m.
