There has been a lot of talk during this presidential campaign about all the “firsts.” Chiefly among the firsts listed…first woman to run for president. And how about the African American candidate…surely that is something of a first as well?
Well, what about Shirley Chisholm? In 1972, she made a run for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination and received 152 delegate votes, but lost to George McGovern. This African American woman has apparently been forgotten by everyone in the press, the public and by the candidates themselves.
Maybe they should start reading up on their American history.
