The United States Forest Service is conducting a state-wide study to determine whether a number of Utah’s rivers should be designated under the Wild and Scenic River Act. There seems to be a lot of misinformation among the public that Wild and Scenic Rivers status equates to limited public access.
To the contrary, if a river already maintains the values that make it eligible for wild and scenic status, then there is no reason for the forest service to manage access any differently once it is designated.
Instead of basing your opinion on hearsay, please find out the facts for yourself. In your area segments of three creeks are eligible for the status; Gooseberry, Fish and Huntington creeks. Please be aware that with each, the entire creek is not up for consideration, only segments.
The forest service will host a public meeting on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Huntington Town Hall. You should come and ask the forest service your questions and get answers from the experts on the subject.
Don’t assume that Wild and Scenic Rivers status won’t benefit you.
