Patricia Smith hustles down court in recent game. She hit 10 points in the win over Morgan.

The much anticipated rematch with Morgan finally took place last Friday night and for the Lady Dinos it was worth the wait as they handed Morgan only its second loss of the season, defeating them 56-40. Morgan had crushed the Dinos earlier in the season and the team wanted to make things right by showing they could play with the best and win. Although it was a non-region match-up for the Dinos, the game still had huge significance.
Stinging a bit over their tough loss to Emery and memories of the earlier loss to the Trojans, the team came out with a mission. Good defense held Morgan to nine in the first, while the Dinos took a three point edge in the first. They maintained their intensity in the second while extending their lead to eight as they headed into the locker room.
The Trojans made some adjustments and picked up some ground in the third as they cut the Dino lead to four. But it was the fourth where Carbon kicked it into gear and took over the game. They outscored Morgan 20-8 to cruise to a 16 point win.
Megan Garvin did 14 points worth of damage to the Trojans and Julia Potts inflicted 12 points to the opposing team. Patricia Smith also was in double figures with 10 points. Potts was 6-8 from the line. Garvin lead the team with five rebounds and Patricia Smith had 3 steals.
“The girls have a mental thing when playing Emery, it was easy to see when they play a tough team like Morgan and make beating them look easy,” said Coach Cami Carlson. “The girls came out really relaxed like they had nothing to lose. They were playing with pride and they played their game.”
The Dinos are now 11-6 overall. The loss to Carbon did not hurt Morgan’s standings in the polls as they continue to be ranked number two in 3A.The win for Carbon did get the attention of some as the Dinos jumped into the number five spot for 3A.
The team will head up north to play Juan Diego on Tuesday and stay on the road for Delta on Thursday.
