Eric Buchmiller blocks a shot in a losing effort to the Emery Spartans. |
Wanting to gain an edge in the tight region 8 race, Carbon and Emery went head to head down in Castle Dale last Wednesday night. It was Emery who prevailed 58-70 and each team walked away with an identical 1-2 record in the region.
The game was as intense as a Spartan-Dino game ever is. Carbon jumped out to a slim one point margin at the end of the first break. Emery then doubled up the Dinos in the second quarter to go ahead by 13 at the end of the half.
It was the Dinos turn to take control of the game in the third. They bombarded the Spartans with 17 while shutting down the Emery offense and holding them to seven. The score was within two going into the final period of play.
Emery found their touch and Carbon began to see the game slipping away. The final outcome was not even close as the Spartans won by 12.
Leading the Carbon charge for the game was Erik Buchmiller with 16. Joey Keller hit for 12. Tysen Stevens and Ryan Rasmussen hit a pair of threes and each finished with eight points. Emery was able to find their range from the outside with 10 threes.
Juan Diego will roll into town this Wednesday night and give the Dinos a chance to even up their region record.Coach Bianco knows that Juan Diego will be looking for their first region win but if the Dinos play their brand of ball they won’t get it here. ” We just need to be aggressive on our offense, play well and take care of business,” he said. If we play like we did against North Sanpete then we will beat them. Delta is going to be the team to beat in the region. The rest of us are going to be battling it out for second place.” Delta will also visit this week and will be in town this Friday night. Both games begin at 7 p.m.at the Carbon High gym.
