The Carbon boys diving team traveled to Park City for a qualifying meet on Dec. 15 for their last competition before the holidays.
“We arrived late and only had a 15 minute warm up, as opposed to the normal one hour we are used to,” said Coach Stew Foster.
According to Foster the boys were not ready and did not perform well on their first two dives.
“This really worried me,” said Foster. “As I thought they might perform this way for the whole meet. They pulled out of their slump however, and started to perform as we expected.”
Travis Hobbs placed first with a score of 383.60. Brett Wells placed third with a score of 327.20 and Kent Olson took seventh with a score of 294.90.
“The difference between seventh and fifth place was only five points,” said Foster.
Nick Torres took eighth with a personal best score of 288.35, both Torres and Olsen performed very well, said Foster.
Nathan Hepworth placed thirteenth with a personal best score and did not fail any dives. Kaleb Kulow placed sixteenth, failing one dive. Dwight Denny came in eighteenth also failing one dive.
Kenny Hobbs took first in the six dive competition with a personal best score.
The Dino’s next meet will be Jan. 3 at South Summit.
