Sweet success! Those were all the words that Coach Dave Paur would need to sum up a three game sweep for the Lady Eagles over the weekend in Twin Falls, Idaho.
On Thursday the team beat down the Southern Idaho All-Stars 78-49 and followed that up with a win over Columbia Basin 87-76. They then topped off the weekend on Saturday with a victory over Treasure Valley 66-45.
With an all-star cast made up of players from the U of U, CSI and Boise State; the all-stars could have given CEU fits. Instead the Eagles came out hot and by the half already had the all-stars down 29-40. It was the second half, though where they really turned it on, outscoring their opponent by 18 to cruise to an easy win.
Erin Richardson led the pack with 12 and Kasey Day stuck in 10 for CEU. The team shot 41% on the night. Veronica Siqueiros and Rachel Rasmussen each had five rebounds.
On Friday night the team took on Columbia Basin. CBC had just beat a good NIC team and was gunning for more. CEU was looking to keep their win streak alive and jumped out faster. They led by six at the break. Not letting up again the Lady Eagles outscored CBC in the second period and took their second win of the tournament. At one time during the contest CEU’s lead was 18 points.
The bench played strong for the Lady Eagles with 34 of its 76 points coming off the bench. Maquette Potts and Kendra Dalebout had eight rebounds each to lead the Eagles defense. Brandi King and Dalebout each hit 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. Dalebout led the team scoring effort with 19 points. Potts had 10, King with 13, and Amber Strong posting 11 were the other Lady Eagles to have a double figure scoring game.
Tasting a tournament sweep, the Eagles went all out against Treasure Valley on Saturday. They held TVCC to only 11 first half points and an abysmal nine percent shooting average. CEU led from start to finish. After building up a 37 point lead, the Eagles went into cruise mode and finished off with 26 percent shooting.
Ande Miller came off the bench and led the scoring for the Eagles with 13. Siqueiros added 10. CEU scored 27 points off of TVCC turnovers while only giving up11. Everyone on the Eagle squad hit the boards hard. Five Eagles had five rebounds and all but one player pulled in at least one board.
The team heads right back up to Twin Falls, Idaho for a second tournament and another three games. It will be their last contests before the holiday break. They will resume play on Jan. 5 at the BDAC with their alumni game.
