Julia Potts goes strong to the rim in the girls home win. Carbon is looking to have another stellar season. |
Picking up where they left off last year, the Lady Dinos resumed their winning ways in a 72-33 rout over Union last Tuesday night.
It didn’t take them long to start hitting on all cylinders as they led the game from start to finish. Coach Cami Carlson had her team running all evening. The Panthers were on their heels for most of the night. Carlson wants her team to get out of the mentality of taking the ball down court and slowing down play as they set up their offense.
All last year’s starters have come back this season. Speed is the biggest asset of this team again. Carlson wants her team to capitalize on that because if they don’t, they will struggle against team’s that have the height advantage.
With the large lead, everyone on the team got a little court time. Twelve players scored for Carbon. Julia Potts and Megan Garvin each put up 13 points. Potts also added six rebounds, four steals and dished out six assists. Garvin also had five steals. Patricia Smith put up double figures with 11 and Britni Greenwood added nine.
There will be no time to feel cocky about the win because they will travel to Heber on Tuesday to take on the 3A’s top ranked team, Wasatch. This will put both teams to the test. Carbon was ranked second to Wasatch in the Tribune power ranking poll, so it could be a preview of what is to come at the state tournament.
The team will be back at home to face Bear River on Thursday night, with game time starting at 7 p.m. in the Carbon High gym.
