Season starts off with three wins in four games.
The CEU women’s basketball team opened their season by winning three out of four.
They traveled south on November 1 and took on Yavapai College in Arizona, walking away with a 73-70 win.
The same weekend they also met up with Arizona Western and lost 73-89.
Coming home this weekend they overpowered Glendale, Ariz. on both nights with wins. Scores for those games were more like National Basketball Association stats than ladies junior college basketball with CEU over the Gauchos 112-79 and 95-69.
The win over Yavapai was really sweet. Yavapai is rated 19th in the nation. Arizona Western is also nationally ranked and even though the team did not take home the victory, they held their own. In the end, it was poor shooting and turnovers that left the door open for Arizona Western.
Erin Richardson led the way for the Eagles in the win over Yavapai with 15 points. Kendra Dalebout was also in double figures with 10. Dalebout went 6-6 at the line.
Veronica Siqueiros led the way in the loss to AWCC with 16 points. Brandi King added 15 and Dalebout put in 14. Dalebout stayed hot at the line as she hit 9 of 10.
On Nov. 9 the Eagles started off slow but after letting the Glendale Gauchos get a small lead, the team turned on their run and shoot game and never looked back.
This time it was Amber Strong’s turn to step up and lead the scoring drive with 22 points. With another solid performance, Dalebout added 19. However, she did not have a single trip to the free throw line in the game.
Saturday started just as slow for the Eagles, but again they found their stride and kept the Gauchos off balance with their full court press and running offense. Glendale was a little more prepared and stayed closer to the Eagles in the first half of play.
Siqueiros had the hot hand for the Eagles with 21. Dalebout matched her total from the night before with another 19 points. Three other Eagles hit double figures; Brandi King 11, Richardson 11, and Alisa Morley 13. Rachel Rasmussen was all over the boards with 10 rebounds She was as much a threat on the offensive boards, as she was scooping up defensive rebounds.
The Lady Eagles head to Casper Wyo. to play in the Pizza Hut Invitational, Nov. 15-17. They will be on the road until January.
