Helper community blood drive – is scheduled Oct. 16 from 2 p.m. at the civic auditorium, 19 South Main. Type O blood donors are needed.
Defensive driving class – for local motorists older than 50 years of age is planned Oct. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the senior center. For information or to register, contact the senior center at 637-5080.
Shriners Children’s Hospital screenings – The free clinic is scheduled Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Castleview. For information, residents may contact Norm Smith at 637-1132.
Halloween carnival – is slated Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lighthouse, located at 251 West 400 North in Price. Attendees wearing costumes will receive prizes.
Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Women’s cancer screening – Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the public health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.
Free legal clinics – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 7th District Court complex, located at 149 East 100 South in Price. Residents should bring all pertinent documents pertaining to legal questions. For information, contact the agency toll-free at 1-800-662-1563.
Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter.
Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Carbon County RSVP – Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need the assistance of volunteers may contact the Price RSVP program at 637-9118 or call the East Carbon office.
Carbon County Family Support and Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. The crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents may use the nursery for respite, doctor and mental health appointments, court appearances, medical emergencies, family crisis, A/Narcotic Anonymous meetings, divorce classes and to escape domestic violence. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
Child care resource and referral – For information on becoming licensed child providers or obtaining referrals, local residents may contact the program at 613-5619.
Price library – Winter hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and closed Sunday. English as a second language classes are Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m. Basic literacy classes are scheduled as needed. For information, contact the library at 636-3188.
Helper library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, noon to 6 p.m.; Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library offers Internet accessible computers and will obtain books for patrons through the inter-facility loan program. For information, contact the library at 472-5601.

Golden Rule Mission – Residents may donate tax-deductible garage/yard sale leftovers to the mission in Helper.
Carbon County Humane Society – offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month at 5 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. Call the society at 637-0588 for appointments.
Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation – is a non-profit group dedicated to the care of orphaned, injured or ill wildlife. The group needs adult volunteers. Carbon County residents may call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.

Regional single adult fireside – is scheduled Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Huntington LDS Stake Center. The activity will feature sculptor Dee Jay Bawden.
Fall Fare 2007 – will be presented Oct. 12 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Oct. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will include a gift shop, homemade soups, baked goods, crafters, collectibles, decorator items and an indoor yard sale. Leftover items from the yard sale will be donated to the Helper mission or children’s justice center.
