Veterans

Recovery classes – are scheduled Monday to Friday at the Golden Rule Mission in Helper from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Classes include relapse prevention, Big Book, 12 steps, traditions, spirituality and life skills. AA is 6 p.m. daily.
Price Recovery group – meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the CEU computer building.
Reach to Recovery – The American Cancer Society program matches a diagnosed breast cancer patient with a trained survivor who can answer questions and address concerns. For information, contact Shanna Mezek at 637-3204.

FUTURES – The Carbon County NAMI affiliate, a support group developed for families who have children with challenges, meets the first and third Wednesday of the month. The first Wednesday is designated as a caregiver support night. The third Wednesday is family activity night.
Scooter & Wheelchair Users ADA support group – meets the second Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. at the housing authority, 251 S. 1600 East, Price.

Look Good, Feel Better – The American Cancer Society program helps women address the appearance related side effects of treatment. The group meets the first Monday of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. at Castleview Hospital. To register, call Debbie Prichard at 613-5302.
Cancer resource center – Volunteers are needed to staff the American Cancer Society information center at Castleview Hospital. Hours are flexible and training is free of charge. For information, contact Gail Harding at 613-1132.
Teen parenting class – is scheduled Monday and Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse. Thirty-six hours will equal one elective credit.

Helper community blood drive – is scheduled Oct. 16 from 2 p.m. at the civic auditorium, 19 South Main.
Type O blood donors are needed.
Mining related musculoskeletal injuries and disorders – Dr. Joseph Webster will present a free program for active or retired miners and their families on Oct. 2.
The program is slated from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Western Energy Training Center, located at 47 North Highway 191.
Defensive driving classes – Two sessions for local drivers older than 50 years of age are planned at the senior center in Price.
The first eight-hour class will be Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 from 1 to 5 p.m. daily. The second session will be Oct. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shriners Children’s Hospital screenings – The free clinic is scheduled Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Castleview.

Halloween carnival – is slated Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lighthouse, located at 251 West 400 North in Price.

Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Women’s cancer screening – Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms.

Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.
Free legal clinics – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 7th District Court complex, located at 149 East 100 South in Price.
Residents should bring all pertinent documents pertaining to legal questions.

Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter.

Carbon County RSVP – Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need the assistance of volunteers may contact the Price RSVP program at 637-9118 or call the East Carbon office.
Carbon County Family Support and Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old.
The crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Residents may use the nursery for respite, doctor and mental health appointments, court appearances, medical emergencies, family crisis, A/Narcotic Anonymous meetings, divorce classes and to escape domestic violence.
Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
The center is also collecting donations for displaced families.

Child care resource and referral – For information on becoming licensed child providers or obtaining referrals, local residents may contact the program at 613-5619.
Cell phones for seniors – are available at Carbon County RSVP. The program provides cell phones that dial 911 in emergencies at no cost to participants.

Price library – Winter hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and closed Sunday.
English as a second language classes are Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m. Basic literacy classes are scheduled as needed.
Local authors Cathy Wilson and Nancy Takacs will be at the library Oct. 3 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Wilson and Takacs have been published in the latest edition of Glyphs and the book will be sold at the event.
