Mont Harmon prepares to go on offense last year against Helper.

The Mont Harmon Pirates put on a defensive clinic, downing the Canyon View Cougars 12-0 on Sept. 5.
“We were much better this week,” said Coach Jeff Blanc of his football team. “They corrected many of the mistakes we were making early in the season, especially on offense.”
Dillon Manzanares ran for 104 yards in the game and scored the team’s only touchdown. Jordan Blanc turned on the afterburners and blew by the Cougar defense with a 75 yard kick-off return to start the third quarter.
“Once we got ahead, our defense really put on the pressure,” said Blanc. “Our defense has been strong all season and just keeps getting better.”
According to Blanc, Sammy Manarite and Manzanares also had stand-out performances on defense leading their team from the linebacker core.
Mont Harmon held the Cougars to 57 total yards gained while racking up 220 yards of offense.
“If we keep getting better we are going to be hard to beat,” said Blanc. “We are really playing good ball.”
